Οur Club was founded in 1999 and is a cultural
artistic folk dance club non profiteering. Its
aim is the cultural advancement through folklore
civilization and folklore arts
(dance-song-theatre-literature). |

Our Club situated in the broad district of
Papafi street, became well known through the
events and the festivals of Thessaloniki and as
result has 120 members. The Club activity
doesn't stop in the learning and presentation of
the dances and songs but spreads in the exchange
of views and information related to the
tradition and the regional customs of our
country with cultural clubs of other countries. |
The Club realized a survey concerning the dances
of the Greek islands which was completed with a
three hour dancing performance in 29/03/2003.
The performance under the title "Dancing the
waves", was presented in the stiflingly filled
hall of ceremonies of the Aristotle University
of Thessalonica. Afterwards the Club cooperated
with the Contemporary Conservatory of
Thessaloniki presenting a three hours
performance of traditional and folklore program,
again in the stiflingly filled hall of
ceremonies of the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki. Continuing the survey around Greek
tradition it completed the record of forgotten
dances of Crete. |

Τhe outcome of
all this effort was presented to the public
by 55 dancers under the sound of the Lyra
and the Lute, through the thetrical and
dancing performance with the title: "Crete
mother of Novility and Torch of freedom", on
6-7 May 2006 in the Theatre of the Garden of
the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

President of the Papafi Folk_Dancing Club of
Thessalonikca, is
Mr Dimitrios Lefkopoulos.
In
the Club there is a group of children aged 5-14
years old, a beginners group and finally the big
dancing-thetrical group of the performances. |
The tutoring of the dances is conducted by
the dance trainer Mr.
Dimitris Michelarakis,
educator of Physical Education
and Head national track coach, in the Hall
of ceremonies of 19th Primary School of
Thessaloniki, every Thursday afternoon from
20.00am -22.00am.

France-Chambery(2005), France-Lion (2007). |
